Postgraduate Programs (Provisional)

The school offers two types of postgraduate programs; the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

Students registered in these Postgraduate programs will be expected to spend about 50% of their time at each of the XJTU and HKUST campuses. The normative period for MPhil programs offered by JSSD shall be 3 years;   depending on the educational background and academic qualifications of the student concerned, the normative period for PhD programs shall be 4 years.

Students judged as missing essential background for the program might be required take additional undergraduate courses as part of their program requirementson, according to the instruction of the relevant postgraduate committee.

Students registered in these programs will be co-supervised with one supervisor being a JSSD faculty member and the other being a regular HKUST faculty member. The two co-supervisors cannot be identical.

Students registered in these programs will also be co-registered with another masters or doctoral program housed at the HKUST Clear Water Bay Campus. Students completing these programs will receive two degrees, one granted by HKUST and the other by XJTU.

The medium of instruction will be English, except for a small number of courses that cannot be taught in English.
